G'day
Boomerphiles
Much
re-engineering has been occurring at Boomers with much more to come in the near future. See the pilot plant we
purchased was designed and built in the U.S. and although I'm sure it could produce beer it's not up to Boomers
exacting standards.
Anybody
refers to the loss of the last Roggenbier at this point is a dead man or woman!!
So Jason and
I have been busily bankrupting ourselves in the pursuit of Tim the Tool Man's favourite catch cry "MORE POWER"!!
Have a look at this sucker;

It's a Mongolian 32 Jet LPG Burner and it
mounts a bit like this under the HLT;

Now the old Mongolian 23 Jet Burner is now
under the Boiling Kettle and as you can see meets the MORE POWER principal;

And these unmanly remnants hanging on the
Boomers Wall of Shame are what they replaced;

So this was a significant shift in
capacity for the little Pilot Plant and was a very obvious improvement during this production run. So why is
boiling so important you ask? Here's an extract from another site to explain;
Why boil? Well, boiling stabilizes the composition of the
wort, which is necessary to achieve “a stable, clear, great tasting beer of balanced character”.
This “stabilization” of the wort happens by the following:
1. Boiling lowers the pH level in the wort, by which a proper environment will be created fot hops utilization.
2. Simple boiling sterilizes by the temperature, by the slightly acidic pH and by the extraction of antiseptic hop
resins.
3. Boiling temperature destroys enzymes: if they would not be destroyed, they would continue to work during
fermentation.
4. Boiling is the processing environment of the hops.
5. Vigorous and violent (rolling) boiling helps coagulate unstable proteins. This process is assisted by the
tannins extracted from husks and hops.
All these (i.e. proper boiling), in turn, create a stable medium for fermentation.
What's next? Well we eagerly await our Sabco Chill Wizard
which has just left the US (more on that when it arrives) and a larger transfer pump on its way from China.
Meanwhile until the Chill Wizard arrives I should take the time to introduce you to our little mate
Sputnik;

As you can see Sputnik is multifunctional. Not only is he a fairly obviously happy
little bloke he is also the holder of the Boomers Nurries Bottle Opener. An important bit of kit and handled
well by the little bloke. Only issue Sputnik has is one dicky knee but he soldiers on until the new Chill
Wizard can step up and take over his production roll. After that Sputnik will be promoted into management at
which point Jason and I will design him some arms so he can scratch said Nurries to occupy his days. And just
to show Sputnik isn't just a pretty face here he is in full production glory cooling the latest
Roggenbier;

Well done son!!
Finally plans are under way for cool room construction.
Stay tuned.
