G'day
Boomerbrowsers
Bugga!! Not sure I got this latest one nailed. After my
rocket to moderate success with the Bitter Separation Bitter and the wealth of knowledge gained over the last
couple of weeks I thought the Boomers Geronimo Pale Face Ale would be a shoe in for world
acclaim.
Well actually it still could be...... "what the @#%* is
that?" acclaimed the world!
Apparantly a couple of weeks of training doesn't equip you
to produce the worlds greatest beer. That sucks!
OK so everything went well in general. Even had a
consultant on hand to assist...
Bloody consultants!
I hit all my targets, followed the recipe closely and yet
my pre boil SG was low at 1.042 whereas it should have been 1.060. OK so I extended the boil a
little longer, did the hop additions as and when required and the result?
Fermenting away happily but the brew is cloudy and very
bitter. Having said that with the hop addition volumes in the recipe it was always going to be a very bitter
beer, which IPA's are meant to be, but I'm just not sure at this stage if it is too bitter. If it is
I'll wimp out and blame the recipe, which I followed to the letter. The cloudiness however is likely to be
something I stuffed up as hard to imagine as that is!
Soon to be Master Brewer, Jason, checked in via SMS during
the event as he was quote 'Expecting a disaster or 2'. Well thankyou mate! Disaster indeed. Everything was
under control.......sort of. Anyway when he's finished his hoildays, tripping accross to the east on
business, press engagements, Royal Wedding after parties and his PRIVATE sheep herding sessions he plans
to return and make helpful suggestions as to how I can become less useless at brewing.
Oh so kind.
On another note Boomers good brews could soon be available
for sampling with our newly aquired, reusable 5lt kegs. They're bloody good stuff. Just wack in the tap, pour
your beer, twist & remove the tap and the balance can go back in the fridge. They are insulated and
should hold temperature well if the keg stays out of the fidge for a while. We'll commission these in the
near future and will let you know our progress...
Also added this week was our grain mill which in the
coming weeks be subject to Boomers "MORE POWER!" re-engineering process....
And of course you all recognise the "MORE POWER!"
re-engineering process made famous by our mate Tim The Toolman Taylor....
So stick around and find out
does soon to be Master Brewer, Jason, return as expected or is
he lost to PRIVATE sheep herding forever? Will Boomers Geronimo Pale Face Ale be drinkable after all or does
Neil really suck the big one as a brewer? Will Sputnik ever get a set of arms so he can scratch his Boomers
bottle opener? You know what you have to do! For the answer to these questions and more stay
tuned!!!
